Miles Merry, Magalie R-Bazinet, Kristof Gillese and Jerry Yu are set to star in Green

New Sci-Fi short Green, written by Wai Sun Cheng and Toby Osborne, is set to release in November of 2022, offering a light but comedic spin to a usually serious and intense genre. Cheng will direct for this upcoming film starring the actors Magalie R-Bazinet, Kristof Gillese, Jerry Yu, and Miles Merry. Casting director, Monika Dalman, worked tirelessly during a four-month long audition period exploring the 200 available talent options. Reaching the final assessments for cast members was not easy. Still, Dalman from Monika Dalman Casting selected the best candidates to star in this highly anticipated science fiction production. The new short film Green predominantly focuses on the mystery and intrigue that shrouds extraterrestrial life forms in a fun and lighthearted tone. The amusing storyline for the film encompasses an unlikely friendship between two buddies Jerry and Kyle with a shipwrecked alien that is being hunted down by government agents.

As a filmmaker, Wai Sun Cheng looks to well-known works by Matt Reeves, Edgar Wright, Quentin Tarantino, and Steven Spielberg as his inspiration. Cheng admits that a few concepts on extraterrestrial themes were gleaned from the Spielberg classic and masterpiece E.T. as he undertook the production of his short film Green. Like with any artist, Cheng wants to "create something that he can be proud of" and hopes he will not only entertain his audience but be able to teach them a little something too. Wai Sun Cheng recalls from his childhood that he knew from the early age of 12 that he would be a filmmaker. A school project inspired Cheng's immense passion for bringing characters to life and telling a story that could impact someone's individual existence. He has had immeasurable success in the industry as a VFX artist working on television productions and major feature films such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Fast and Furious, Once Upon a Time, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Cheng now focuses his endeavours on producing transformative and inspiring feature films as an Asian Canadian filmmaker. Cheng is also enthusiastic about collaborating with award-winning screenwriter Toby Osborne for many of his new and prospective films.

Although filmmaking can be an enriching experience, it can also be an emotionally draining process that can test you in ways that you never thought imaginable. Every person across the globe has encountered many roadblocks and inconveniences that have arisen from the pandemic surrounding the virus Covid-19. Filmmaking is no exception as those in this creative industry must remain flexible and patient in order to accommodate the changes brought on by covid. The making of the Green film, like countless others, has faced an increased demand for smaller-sized productions. This ongoing demand can affect the production deadlines as well as the financial restrictions imposed on some films. Covid limitations require the use of smaller-sized teams. This, however daunting, has not stopped the entertainment industry from producing good-quality feature films and television productions. Movies made during the pandemic, such as the film Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, were able to create a visually delightful comedy-drama and work of art with only five VFX artists on their production team. If you have seen the film, you can attest to this small-sized artistic team's absolute triumph created in an apartment. Filmmaker Wai Sun Cheng glowingly praises their work as he speaks from experience testifying to the needs of people to adapt during these times in order to reach their creative goals and directives.

New and promising talent Miles Merry has the incredible opportunity to work alongside writer and director Wai Sun Cheng in the movie Green. Space enthusiast and actor Miles Merry hugely appreciate the friendship ideals that play a significant role in the making of this short film. Merry is confident that going on an adventure with your best friend is an enticing cinematic experience with a highly relatable friendship dynamic that will easily capture an audience's heart. Merry excitedly recalls spending countless hours as a child using his imagination and pretending to be an astronaut in space. The ability as an actor to jump into any role and continue to have these grand and fantastical adventures as an adult is one of Merry's significant draws to the world of acting. He continues to approach every acting job he receives with childlike excitement towards the fantasy and mysteries possible within each project.

Kristoff Gillese is another performative talent working on this new short film production. Green is a film of "crazy good fun" that effortlessly incorporates themes of aliens and life growing up as a teenager. These themes are seamlessly integrated into an entertaining, family-friendly short film. Kristoff Gillese recounts the exhilarating moments he spent performing a dance routine for the movie Green and eagerly awaits its upcoming release. Gillese admits that his dancing scenes in the film were some of the hardest he has ever attempted. Still, he is always amazed at the journey of self-discovery that acting reveals to him. The reflective process causes him to better understand himself and relate to others and his environment more easily.

In this astronomical production, we also welcome to the screen highly ambitious and accomplished actress Magalie R-Bazinet. She works alongside Chinese actor and model Jerry Yu who also stars in the film. The world of sci-fi reached out to actor Jerry Yu whose extraordinary passion for portraying new and engaging characters is ever-present in the production of Green. Yu finds acting to be most interesting when he is able to express an array of emotions that he never imagined were even possible. As he embraced his character role working on this new film, Yu strived to reach new creative heights that compel the audience to view aliens in a different way. He is delighted to discover the audience's reactions to the thought-provoking but humorous journey as well as the power of friendship presented by the movie Green.
